The ReMake Value Retention Centre (RVRC) is a £10m + research centre, supported by UKRI. It’s led by the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and University of Strathclyde – the operator of NMIS, in partnership with the University of Exeter and the University of Sheffield.
The RVRC focuses on ‘high integrity’ sectors critical to national infrastructure, with emphasis on transport and energy sectors, including aerospace, wind, nuclear, marine, industrial and power generation.
Adopting a cross sector, system-wide approach, the RVRC addresses challenges across business models, policies, standards, culture, skills, and investment. We also have a strong technical focus on metallic and composite based circular manufacturing technology, digital tools and inspection processes, and new circular design principles.
Working with partners across the private, civic, and public sectors, the RVRC will generate new research and practical insight into components such as aircraft structures/ engines, energy systems, and industrial equipment can be remanufactured, refurbished or undertake high value recycling, to keep products at their highest value and avoid landfill.
We will focus not only on extending the life of existing infrastructure but, more critically, on how new designs can maximise circular economy opportunities.
By advancing circular economy practices, the RVRC aims to create new economic value, reduce waste and emissions, build material resilience across nationally important sectors, and accelerate the transition to net zero while delivering substantial economic impact for the UK.
